2. EDITING PACKAGE (2 – 4 months)

This package might be for you if you’ve already carried your work through the first couple of drafts and now you need some outside eyes on it. Please note that I do not do copyediting or proofreading.

Package includes:

  • Initial read through
  • Detailed reader’s report & substantive notes
  • Time to address notes
  • Weekly check-ins
  • Second pass

3. SYNOPSIS WRITING PACKAGE (1 – 2 weeks)

If you’re at the querying stage, and you’re having trouble writing a synopsis for your novel, you aren’t alone. There’s a simple reason for that: you’re too close to the work. When you’ve toiled away for months or years on a project, it’s nearly impossible to take a step back and boil it back down to its essence.

Package includes:

  • Full manuscript read through
  • 1:1 call to go over tone, message and themes
  • Written one-page synopsis
  • Two rounds of edits/feedback so we can get it just right.

Who am I?

A colour photograph of Emma Côté sitting beside her typewriter.

You probably wouldn’t want to send your precious book baby to just anyone, and I get that, because I’m a writer too. I’m the author of UNREST, which won the International 3-Day Novel contest. My second novel GREEN is currently under consideration by multiple agents.

I also hold a BA in English Literature & Creative Writing as well as a Post-graduate Certificate in Book & Magazine Publishing, and a Diploma in Print Journalism. I worked as a reporter and editor for over ten years, before deciding to shift into book publishing. Since then, I’ve worked with literary agency The Rights Factory, where I trained under Cecilia Lyra and Emmy Nordstrom Higdon. This role involved reading the manuscripts of potential and current clients and writing 5,000-word reports along with pitch copy.

I now work for a company that creates the digital versions of print books for publishers all across Canada and offer these freelance services on the side.

“Emma was my lighthouse. She immediately saw the heart of my story, and cut through everything else to help me with my synopsis. Her reading is close, her work is precise, and her guidance is invaluable.”
